How to Meditate When You Feel Like You Don’t Have the Time
You can practice mindfulness throughout the day. You can be mindful of your eating, walking, listening with intent, and brushing your teeth. Many moments in life go by unnoticed or without our attention. Focusing on mindfulness and being aware of what is going on in the present can aid you in meditation. Here are some ways to retrain your brain and practice meditation throughout each day.
Are Mindfulness and Meditation the Same Thing?
There is a deeper breakdown of the difference between mindfulness and meditation: Mindfulness and meditation can often be considered equivalent or interchangeable. Does it matter which one you practice or if one is better? Of course not, but what’s the difference between the two? Mindfulness is the experience of being aware of what you are doing, while meditation is the awareness of being.
There’s no reason to be upset if you find yourself drifting away from meditation while you are meditating. Meditation is a practice so having patience and understanding with yourself is the key to unlocking a deep and fulfilling meditation. Mindfulness and meditation go hand in hand so understanding mindfulness practices are important when you check in with your body during meditation.
Practices To Try
It is indeed doable to practice throughout the day even when you feel like you don’t have the time. Here are some ways to put the meditation into practice “on the go”:
Mindful eating is a way to enjoy the moment and practice mindfulness. Before you eat take a moment to acknowledge this luxury. You can even notice the salivary glands building up as you anticipate the food.
Take a few breaths before you do a task. This is a great way to balance the mind and body and reconnect if even for a few seconds. You can maintain mindfulness and release tension through this small meditation.
Meditate as soon as you wake up and right before you go to sleep. Before you grab your phone or jump out to bed to tackle the day take some time to visualize how you want your day to go. Give God thanks for the breath and the new day and thank your heart and body for coming together again. Allow yourself to be still and feel the energy around you. In the evening, release the tension brought on by the day and prepare for a soothing recharge in slumber.
Waiting for something? Try meditation during this time! If you find yourself waiting for a meeting to start, a meal to be brought to you, the phone to ring, or whatever you are anticipating, use this time to take some breaths and…that’s right, meditation. You can fully be aware of your surroundings at this moment and realize how you are settling into your body.
