The Only Mindful Morning Routine You Need
Morning routines are a great start to the day. Once your morning routine is set, you feel like you can face the world. You can think more precisely, you have all the tools and materials for the day, and you've taken time to groom yourself before even stepping outside. If you want to savor a mindful day and get started with a vigorous morning routine, then these mindful morning tips will be exactly what you need.
Wake Up Early
Waking up earlier than normal is important if you want to do your routine without worrying about time. I learned from my mom that a morning routine sets the tone for the rest of her day. She loves to take her time to do things that will calm her down before she starts her obligations even if these things may take one to two hours.
If you make the time to do everything that will make you feel refreshed and ready for the day, then you won't feel stressed and anxious about doing your self-care routine.
Put your alarm away from your bed so you have to get up and turn it off. This surely helps me not fall back asleep.
After, you can sit up in a chair and take the first few moments of the day to enjoy the breath. Thanking God for the new day and breathing in is a way of showing gratitude. Each day holds its present and gem. Approach this day with kindness.
Stretch and Exercise
Because I am a morning person, I would start the morning off with a few exercises by my bed. Some people go for a run or begin stretches to awaken the body. As long as you can gently introduce your body to movement.
I like to get my exercises done in the morning by doing a few crunches and planks to awaken myself. Exercise gives you energy and makes you feel prepared for the day.
Part of this routine could include getting some fresh morning air. You can open a window to let in a breeze and prepare yourself to leave the house.
For some morning stretching you can focus on major muscle groups like the neck, legs, back, and hips. When you stretch, be sure to listen to your body and not overdo it, but hold the stretch for at least 20 seconds to have an effect. Stretching improves blood flow and flexibility and leaves you feeling loosened up for the day.
Say Your Daily Affirmations
I found that putting my affirmations on the side of my bed would help me to remember to recite them every day. After meditation and prayer, read your affirmations. Affirmations sink into the subconscious and allow you to align yourself with these sayings.
There are affirmations and gathas you can say throughout the morning that will set the trajectory of your day.
First waking up
Thank you, Lord, for an amazing day.
I get to experience joy in the first breath of the day,
With my breath, I will cherish it
While getting dressed
I have a peaceful place to get dressed
I am grateful for clothes to wear
I am blessed to be in this moment where I can dress myself
Choose Positive Nourishment
If you are someone who enjoys a morning coffee, like me, start first with a nice glass of water. Be sure to hydrate yourself with what your body needs. It's not caffeine believe it or not. Set the intention to drink your water throughout the day and eat food that will be good for the body, even if you only choose to eat one healthy meal if you are getting used to adjusting your diet.
Morning Meditation Practice
Meditation is an amazing way to infuse mindfulness into your day. Morning meditation is also a way to set the tone for the day. Here are some ways to practice morning meditation.
Find a comfortable space: That could be the edge of your bed, a spot in your room, or maybe a comfortable chair in the house. If you can establish this spot in your routine, then it becomes a place that becomes easier to meditate in.
Set a Time: Because this is a morning meditation practice, you may not have unlimited time to meditate. Even if this time seems small, setting a time for meditation will make a huge impact on your day.
Using Guided Morning Meditations: If sitting in silence and focusing on the breath seems a bit stressful at first, you can start by watching guided meditations on YouTube. I enjoy watching this video because it places me in such a positive mindset and gets me excited not only for the day but for my life.
Incorporating Prayer
Prayer as soon as you wake up is also a great way to set your intentions for the day. Ask God to walk before you in your day so that everything that is for you will present itself. Be sure to thank Him for the day ahead. Showing God gratitude is important because you show Him how appreciative you are for this life. Remember gratitude is a way to be in the present moment while still enjoying life.

Find Something to Be Excited About
If you're having trouble with starting the routine, find something about the routine that you really like, then add to it. If you love skincare, invest in a skincare product that will make you like taking care of your skin. I enjoy this face wash because it makes me feel bright and awake. I get so excited to use it in the morning. You can then expound on it by introducing a moisturizing routine and while you moisturize, perhaps add stretching and so on and so on until you have a routine that you are comfortable with.
Avoid Social Media During Your Routine
Scrolling on social media can be a way to wake yourself up, but also takes a toll on your mental health. If you can avoid using social media, you have more time to be in the moment and enjoy the process of your morning routine.
If you set the intention before bed that you won't get on your phone in the morning, then you are more likely to skip the scrolling when you wake up. Even if you are not able to quit cold turkey, delay scrolling. Try not to make it the very first thing in the morning until you can completely phase it out of your morning routine. You can also set a timer for your scrolling, and if you want to kick it up a notch, delete the application the night before and re-download it after your morning routine.

A Morning Routine sets the tone for a successful, productive, and mindful day.
